It was a pretty early morning for the publishing industry at the State of the Magazine address, held Oct. 17. Account managers, sales reps, publishers, and advertisers straggled into the Vancouver Convention Centre at the crack of 8 a.m., and armed with complimentary coffees and croissants, settled in for an insider look at publishing and sales research.

MABC Appoints New Executive Director

The MABC Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Sylvia Skene to the position of executive director, effective August 2. Sylvia is looking forward to tackling the wide variety of challenges in the coming months and years, meeting the members, and discovering a new field and new people who appreciate her sense of humour.

MABC members win 11 Western Magazine Awards

MABC member magazines BCBusiness, Geist, The Malahat Review, Vancouver magazine, Vancouver Review and Western Living were among the winners of the 29th Annual Western Magazine Awards, held June 17 at the Renaissance Harbourside Hotel in Vancouver. Their awards are as follows:

National Magazine Awards Finalists Announced

Eight MABC member magazines garnered 22 National Magazine Awards nominations: BCBusiness, British Columbia Magazine, EVENT, Geist, The Malahat Review, PRISM international, Vancouver magazine and Western Living. The complete list of winners is online at magazine-awards.com. The 34th annual National Magazine Awards gala will be held June 10 at The Carlu in Toronto. Industry stalwart D.B. Scott will receive the NMAF Award for Outstanding Achievement.
